Empowering Breeders
BACKGROUND STORY
On October 16, 2010, Stylish Mello was born at “Farnham” Taroom, QLD. Bred and owned by Kylie Graham, she was the sixth foal from the well-performed mare Mello Oak and sired by One Stylish Pepto during his cutting career with Todd & Kylie Graham. Having already bred a gelding from the same cross three years earlier, Kylie was thrilled to now have a filly.
As Stylish Mello matured, she showed excellent conformation and athleticism. She remained with Kylie and was broken in by Sam Park before beginning work as a mustering horse, like all of Kylie’s young horses. From her first exposure to cattle, it was clear she had exceptional natural ability. Her quick reactions and fluid movement set her apart, making her a dream to ride.
With her talent evident, the plan was to follow in the footsteps of her older sister, One Moore Mello, and enter cutting training with Jason McClurg to prepare for the 2014 NCHA Futurity. However, a severe tongue injury unexpectedly sidelined her. Once recovered, Kylie took over her training and found her so easy to handle that she decided to continue the process herself. Instead of returning to cutting, she transitioned Stylish Mello into campdrafting, where her cow sense and agility proved invaluable.
Since then, Kylie and Stylish Mello have become a formidable team in the campdraft arena, competing against the best in the sport across the country. While her competitive career continues, she has also become a valuable broodmare, producing seven Embryo Transfer foals so far, with more expected in the future.
