Born on October 25, 2016, at ‘Farnham’ in Taroom, QLD, Conmello entered the world as a striking dun-colored filly, the result of an embryo transfer between Mello Oak and the legendary Hazelwood Conman. From the moment she stood on her long, elegant legs, it was clear she was something special.
Under the careful watch of her owner and breeder, Kylie Graham, Conmello thrived. By the time she reached 18 months of age, she was so well-grown and mature that Kylie made the decision to send her to renowned horseman Will Durkin to be broken in. Afterward, she was turned out to continue developing, growing into a strong and capable young mare.
Back at Farnham, Conmello was put to work mustering cattle, where her natural talent quickly became evident. She moved with grace, displaying a keen cow sense and impressive athletic ability. Recognizing her potential, Kylie sent her to Jon Templeton for four months of training as a two-year-old, following the common practice of the time. It didn’t take long for Jon to realize she was something extraordinary. She read cattle with a sharp instinct, moved low and fluidly, and had a bendy, agile style that allowed her to spread her back legs wide and low, much like a seasoned cutting horse.
Yet, her most remarkable trait was still to be uncovered. When she locked onto a beast, Conmello’s stride—reminiscent of her sire Hazelwood Conman—was effortless. She moved with a natural rhythm, making chasing cattle look easy.
In her Futurity year, Conmello had four starts, placing in every event and demonstrating class well beyond her years. Though injuries sidelined her for a time, she returned to the campdraft arena in 2023, now partnered with Kylie’s son, Tom. Together, they turned heads, impressing even the most discerning judges. And while her career is still unfolding, one thing is certain—Conmello’s best is yet to come.
Recognizing her immense value, Kylie made the decision to begin flushing embryos from Conmello early on. As a broodmare, she has already proven exceptional, producing five foals with another on the way this season. Not only is she a dream to work with reproductively, but she is also ensuring her legacy will live on for generations to come.
The story of Conmello is far from over—her talent, heart, and impeccable bloodlines promise an exciting future ahead.
