Every great horse begins with a story, and Tassas Reflection is writing his across some of Australia’s biggest performance horse arenas.
Sired by Tassa N Smart and out of Shez Lethal, a Lethal Lena mare, Reflection was bred by Nathan Wilson and has established himself across Challenge, Campdraft and Reined Cow Horse. His story began long before joining Leah Read’s team, but it was with Leah that a new chapter began.
Reflection first caught Leah’s eye as a two-year-old at the Toowoomba Supreme Sale. She later watched him develop as a young horse, where his dry work and wet work ability stood out. Years later, owner Terry Borland approached Leah about taking on his campaign, and the partnership quickly began producing results.
Reflection is quick on a cow, reads and rates cattle naturally and has plenty of feel without being a hot horse. He genuinely cares about his job, giving him the ability to stay connected to his rider and handle pressure when it matters.
In 2025, Reflection won The Congress Stallion Shootout with a 92, earning his Open Campdraft status and setting the stage for an outstanding 2026 season.
He continued that form by winning the Flinders Open Challenge and heading to the Horse of the North, where he won the Open Dry Work with a 92.5 and the Open Wet Work with a 93. He finished third overall and won the Open Campdraft Cut Out with two 24 yard scores, while also placing seventh in the Cloncurry Open Stockman’s Challenge and fifth in ARCHA Australia’s Ultimate Cow Horse at Scone.
His dry work is a standout part of his performance, with exceptional speed through his turns and the control to match it. Combined with his cow sense and athleticism, Reflection has proven he can step into different arenas and perform.
And despite what he has already achieved, there is a strong belief that Reflection is still improving. As his confidence continues to grow, so does the opportunity to see just how far his ability can take him.
Reflection’s story is now extending into the breeding barn, with his first foal crop born in 2022. Three of his progeny have already been started by Leah, all earning a place among the top tier of young horses in her program. One three-year-old daughter was impressive enough to be taken to Cloncurry to compete against four-year-old horses.
Early progeny have shown the feel, willingness, athleticism and interest in cattle that have become such important parts of Reflection himself, giving breeders an exciting indication of what he can pass on.
Physically, Reflection is a tall, sporty stallion with a light front end, straight legs and plenty of power. His pedigree also provides a point of difference, with no High Brow Cat, Acres Destiny or Conman lines, making him an interesting outcross for many Australian mares.
His family has already produced further performers, including a full sister who is the dam of Lethal King Cole, another stallion campaigned by Leah Read.
With Terry and Marg Borland committed to his future, Reflection will continue to be campaigned across Challenge, Campdraft and Reined Cow Horse, with plans to take on major Campdraft stages including Condamine, Chinchilla and Warwick.
From the competition arena to the breeding barn, Tassas Reflection is proving himself as more than a one discipline stallion. He has the record, the pedigree and the first progeny now beginning to show what they can do.
And with more confidence still to come, the next chapter of Tassas Reflection’s story is only beginning.
