Convoy's journey to becoming one of Australia's most exciting young performance stallions has been carefully shaped by some of the industry's most respected horsemen. Bred to perform and backed by a pedigree rich in proven campdraft and challenge genetics, Convoy has progressed through every stage of his career with remarkable success while remaining proudly owned by Jason and Karen Fry.
From an early age, Convoy displayed the quality and athleticism that would later define his career. Under the guidance of Jason Fry and Brett Welsh, he established himself as a standout in the Australian Stock Horse futurity program. Campaigned extensively as a two and three-year-old, he enjoyed significant success throughout the futurity circuit, highlighted by Champion Led and Champion Three-Year-Old Working Horse titles at the Australian Stock Horse National Show.
In May of his three-year-old season, Convoy joined Chris Ware at Wungum to begin his introduction to cattle work. Recognising his exceptional potential, semen was collected and frozen before he returned to Jason Fry to continue his successful Stock Horse career. At the completion of his four-year-old season, Convoy returned to Chris Ware, where the focus shifted toward developing his challenge and campdraft career.
Chris believed Convoy possessed all the attributes required to excel on cattle and felt leading Queensland horseman Scott Schoo would be an ideal fit for his next stage of development. With a natural desire to work a cow, an outstanding work ethic and a trainable temperament, Convoy adapted seamlessly to Scott's program. Despite a relatively short preparation period, the partnership quickly produced results and laid the foundation for what continues to be an exciting competition career.
As a five-year-old, Convoy announced himself on the campdraft scene with a breakthrough victory in the Open Campdraft at The Congress in Dalby, an achievement that highlighted both his natural ability and maturity. Reaching Open campdraft status at such a young age is a significant milestone, and his consistent placings across campdraft and challenge competition have continued to reinforce his reputation as a horse with an exceptionally bright future. During his first season campdrafting, he also qualified for the prestigious Condamine Bell Final, further showcasing his talent against strong competition.
Away from the competition arena, Convoy possesses the qualities that breeders value most. He combines an exceptional temperament with outstanding trainability, athletic movement and a powerful stop. Whether travelling, competing, working cattle or being handled around the stable, he approaches every task with the same calm and willing attitude that has become one of his defining characteristics.
His pedigree is equally impressive. Sired by Conman and out of an Acres Destiny mare from an Omega mare family, Convoy carries generations of proven performance bloodlines. His maternal granddam was herself a successful Open campdraft mare, and the strength of his female family is already beginning to emerge through the next generation.
The first crop of Convoy progeny are now entering training, and the early signs have been extremely encouraging. Young horses by Convoy have already attracted attention through Stock Horse futurities and yearling competitions, displaying quality conformation, athleticism, trainability and exceptional temperaments. As they begin their ridden careers, there is growing excitement about what they may achieve in both challenge and campdraft competition.
Standing each breeding season at Wungum, south of Tamworth, Convoy is a stallion that Chris and Taylor Ware not only manage but actively support within their own breeding program. Their confidence in him reflects the belief that he possesses all the attributes required to become an influential sire within the Australian performance horse industry.
With Scott Schoo continuing to campaign him in Queensland, Convoy remains firmly on an upward trajectory. The immediate focus is to continue building his challenge and campdraft résumé before transitioning into a full-time campdraft career. Having already achieved Open campdraft success as a five-year-old while demonstrating the qualities of an elite sire prospect, Convoy is proving himself to be a rare combination of talent, temperament and pedigree.
As both a performer and young sire, Convoy has already exceeded expectations early in his career. With his best years still ahead of him, he represents an exciting opportunity for breeders looking to produce competitive, trainable and versatile performance horses for the future.
