Every great horse has a story, and for Steven and Louise Comiskey, the story of Lyra Park Delt Me N Acre began long before he was born.
At the heart of it was their outstanding mare, Lyra Park Delta, a Warwick Gold Cup winner and one of the most influential horses the Comiskeys have owned. By Parkway Alaray and out of the Romeo mare Lyra Park Roma, Delta built a reputation as a tough, consistent campdraft mare that always seemed to perform when the pressure was on. She possessed a huge stop, natural cow sense and the ability to rate cattle with ease, qualities that made her a standout throughout her career. Steve was still a young rider when he campaigned Delta and often reflects that, with the experience he has today, he could have got even more out of her. Even so, she remains one of the most talented mares he has ever ridden and a horse that consistently performed on the biggest stages.
Around that time, Steve was riding horses for Richard Bull, owner of the legendary sire Acres Destiny. In return for his work, Steve was offered a service fee to the highly sought-after stallion. Knowing the quality of mare he had in Delta, he saw it as an opportunity too good to pass up. Steve and Louise decided to make the joining, hoping to combine Delta's proven campdraft ability with the athleticism, consistency and performance record that Acres Destiny was becoming renowned for producing.
Having already experimented with embryo transfer programs using Quarter Horse stallions over their large-framed Stock Horse mare, they hoped the cross would produce a versatile performance prospect. The result was a striking black colt that immediately caught their attention. Tall, athletic and beautifully put together, he was an impressive individual from the day he was born.
That colt would become Lyra Park Delt Me N Acre.
Broken in by Matt Moffat as a two-year-old, Delt quickly showed the trainability and cow sense that would become hallmarks of his career. Following his initial education, Steve took over his development, bringing him along through day-to-day work on the family property until he was ready to begin his campdrafting career as a five-year-old. From the very first rides, Delt impressed with his intelligence and natural ability. He was cowy, willing and gave Steve the confidence that he could be put straight to work, showing all the qualities of a horse with a bright future ahead of him.
Those early signs were quickly confirmed once he entered competition. One of his first major successes came at Paradise Lagoons where he won the Novice, immediately showcasing the ability that had always been evident at home. His rise through the ranks continued steadily, culminating in his ACA Rookie Horse of the Year title at Dalby and establishing him as one of the more promising young stallions on the circuit.
As his career has progressed, Delt has developed a reputation that closely mirrors that of his dam. Like Lyra Park Delta before him, he consistently places himself amongst the results at major events and continues to perform against strong competition. His record includes victories at Paradise Lagoons, Dingo, Nebo, Twin Hills and Capella, alongside numerous placings in Open and Restricted Open company.
One of the most memorable performances of Delt's career came at the 2025 Warwick Gold Cup. Sitting well behind the leaders entering the final, he produced an outstanding 90-point round to climb into third place in one of campdrafting's most coveted events. The run showcased the athleticism, cow sense and determination that have become trademarks of his career.
Today, Delt continues to build on that record, with placings across some of Queensland's most competitive campdrafts and a growing reputation as a horse that consistently performs. In 2025 he finished fifth in the Novice Horse of the Year standings, and in 2026 he has continued his progression through the Open ranks, sitting amongst the leading horses in the country.
Away from competition, Delt is known for his outstanding temperament. Despite being a stallion, he possesses a relaxed and charismatic personality and has always been a pleasure to have as part of the team. His kind nature is one of his most admired qualities and is a trait Steve and Louise hope he continues to pass on to future generations.
As a sire, Delt is already showing encouraging signs. Steve has always believed his size, length of leg and athletic frame would compliment Quarter Horse mares particularly well, and his progeny are already proving that theory correct. Many of his offspring are noticeably taller than their dams while retaining athleticism, balance and trainability. The oldest foals are only beginning their competitive careers, but the early indications have been positive. One of his eldest daughters recently recorded an 88-point run to finish second in a futurity at her first start despite having received very little formal training.
For Steve, the qualities that make a successful stallion extend beyond competition success. A good sire must possess size, athletic ability, consistency, a strong mind and the capacity to leave quality offspring. He believes Delt is showing many of those characteristics. His progeny are proving athletic, strong and versatile enough to excel both as working horses and performance prospects.
Steve and Louise feel fortunate to have bred Delt. By Acres Destiny and out of their cherished Warwick Gold Cup-winning mare Lyra Park Delta, he carries many of the qualities they admired in both sides of his pedigree. Quiet, athletic, cowy and consistently competitive, Delt continues to build his own record while carrying forward the legacy of a mare that played such an important role in their campdraft journey.
Still only in the early stages of both his performance and breeding careers, Lyra Park Delt Me N Acre has already proven himself a capable competitor and a promising young sire. With his performance record continuing to grow and his first progeny beginning to make their mark, Steve and Louise believe there is plenty to look forward to in the years ahead.
