The Topside
BACKGROUND STORY
Bonniedoon Kanya Catolena, better known as ‘Jaxon,’ has had a steady and well-rounded journey, shaped by both station work and campdrafting. He was purchased as a two-year-old from the Landmark Classic Sale, showing early promise as a young horse with a good temperament and solid ability.
Following his sale, Jaxon headed north to North Queensland, where he spent time mustering with Brooke Fitzgerald. The long days working cattle in big country gave him a strong foundation, helping him develop into a sensible and capable horse. After gaining valuable experience in the north, Jaxon returned south to compete in the Landmark Classic Campdraft, where he had the chance to test his skills in a competitive setting.
Due to workplace requirements, Brooke was unable to keep a stallion long-term, so she sent Jaxon to her sister, Lexi Payne, in Mundubbera. Under Lexi’s guidance, he continued his campdrafting career, settling in well and proving to be a handy and reliable horse. Over the years, he became a familiar sight at drafts, consistently putting in solid runs.
In 2020, Joe and Lexi Payne took over ownership of Jaxon after Lexi had spent a few years competing on him for Brooke. Since then, both Joe and Lexi have continued to campaign him, appreciating his steady nature and versatility. Now calling ‘Lelant’ home, Jaxon has become a valued part of their team and continues to be a dependable horse to have on the truck.
