Empowering Breeders
BACKGROUND STORY
John Plant bred his mare, Budget, to Abbeys Mate, resulting in the birth of Gabrielle. She began her campdrafting career in 2015, and by the time she was seven years old, she was already making her mark in competition. In 2016, Kristina Plant rode Gabrielle to a fourth-place finish in the novice at Millmerran, followed by a maiden win at Wandoan in 2017. Over time, the mare became a true family horse, ridden by Kristina and also by both Plant daughters in juvenile campdrafts. Gabrielle’s unique ability to compete at high open levels with Robert and Kristina while remaining soft and consistent for juvenile riders made her an invaluable part of the family’s team.
Although Kristina consistently made campdraft finals on Gabrielle, luck often wasn’t on her side. Eventually, she handed the reins to Robert Plant, hoping he could secure a few more wins. That decision paid off when Robert and Gabrielle won the 2020 Condamine Bell Novice. From there, Gabrielle's success continued, winning four open drafts and finishing second for five consecutive weekends. Following her competition career, Gabrielle transitioned into breeding after sustaining a chest muscle injury. She now spends her days producing future performance horses for the Plant family.
Her first two foals were embryo transfers by Condet, followed by an ET foal by Mentor and one naturally carried by Gest an Acre. Each of her foals has been special, Baby G shows resemblance of Gabrielle in her type and Gracious, her build brings back memories of Budget, Gabrielle’s dam. The mentor foal is a nice well balanced filly who shows lots of potential with her long legs and quirky nature. One of the most exciting additions to the family’s breeding program is a filly by Gest an Acre, a stallion known for his consistency and competitive ability with multiple riders. Following his passing, having a filly by him out of Gabrielle felt like hitting the jackpot—an irreplaceable piece of their breeding legacy.
Gabrielle has now produced four foals, all fillies, by three different stallions, continuing to leave her mark on the next generation of performance horses.
